What a Badass

Every once in a while, an event comes along that challenges the mettle of even the most die-hard cinephile. Doubly taxing is when that same event is loaded to the gills with enough pure, unfettered testosterone as to challenge the manhood of all in attendance. Such was the case with The Alamo Drafthouse’s recent Russellmania; a five-part marathon of Kurt Russell movies. This ceaseless barrage of unmitigated manliness threatened to punch our eyes from their sockets, inject pure swagger directly into our necks, and put hair in places we didn’t know it could grow.

Lounge Geeks’ own Brian Salisbury and Jason Murphy somehow managed to survive the event, and now they wax macho on all things Russell in this podcast of pain. Strap on your eyepatch, hop into The Porkchop Express, and prepare to have your mundane weekday Russelled to the ground.

Lets just say that I learned how to play chess watching his movies, lol. When I was a kid my family had to move into my uncle’s house due to a house fire. My uncle had close to 500 vhs tapes and he was amazing at keeping them categorized: action, western, etc. My brother and I complained that he didn’t have anything we wanted to watch one Saturday morning (we were missing the Sat. cartoons, of course). He pulled out several tapes and Big Trouble in Little Chine, The Thing, and Used Cars were on one of the tapes. We watched that tape alone so many times. Can’t wait to hear the podcast guys!

When I was a really young kid, I always confused Kurt Russell with Patrick Swayze until I realized that Kurt Russell was the one that made all the stuff I wanted to see and Swayze was the one my sister tortured me with.

It really is amazing to see how much stuff he was in that I was a fan of. He probably has a better track record with me than anyone else I can think of.

Breakdown is such a badass movie, as are all the other ones you guys discussed, but Unlawful Entry is another good one that seems to be forgotten.
